Taylor Swift Wins Big at the American Music Awards and Lionel Richie is Presented With the Icon Award
The American Music Awards premiered live on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 8pm PST/EST on ABC. It started off with P!nk singing and dancing while on roller skates to Wayne Brady rapping and singing during his introduction with a special appearance with his Dancing With The Stars partner Witney Carson, and they showed off their fancy ballroom moves! The first award of the night was New Artist of the Year and it went to Dove Cameron! Next, Bebe Rexha performed her song “I’m Good (Blue)” featuring David Guetta with an amazing production! The award for Favorite Rock Artist went to Machine Gun Kelly! Also, the award for Favorite Country Duo or Group went to Dan + Shay!
Anitta performed her song “Lobby” with special appearance from Missy Elliott! The award for Favorite Male R&B Artist went to Chris Brown! Carrie Underwood was also flying high during her AMAs performance! Taylor Swift won Favorite Pop Album for her re-recorded album “Red (Taylor’s Version)!” GloRilla performed “Tomorrow 2” with Cardi B and they did great! Anitta won Favorite Female Latin Artist! The AMAs host Wayne Brady asked the audience for random words for him to use in a freestyle rap and the words included were “owes you money,” “loofah,” “sex,” “hip-hop,” and “tracks”-this turned out to be an impressive freestyle that could be the next hit! Wayne Brady did an amazing job at hosting and it will be awesome for him to come back and host the American Music Awards next year in 2023!
The FIRST Favorite Afrobeats Artist award went to Wizkid! Imagine Dragons performed “Bones” and “Enemy” with J.I.D.! The award for Favorite Rock Song went to Måneskin! P!nk rejoined the AMA stage to perform a moving tribute with the song “Hopelessly Devoted To You” to 10-time AMA winner the late Olivia Newton-John. Lil Baby performed “In A Minute” and “California Breeze” and it was so cool! Future featuring Drake and TEMS won Favorite Hip-Hop Song for their song “Wait For U!” Favorite Music Video went to Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film! Yola performed “Break The Bough” with so much passion in her voice! Harry Styles won Favorite Pop Song for “As It Was!” Dove Cameron gave an incredible performance of her song “Boyfriend!”
The 2022 Artist of the Year award went to Taylor Swift, winning all six of her nominations, and she made a historic run this night as the most awarded artist in American Music Awards history! Smokey Robinson presented the Icon Award to his long time friend Lionel Richie! And to end this night off, Stevie Wonder and Charlie Puth took the stage to perform a medley of Lionel Richie’s hit songs!
