Global Pop Trendsetters: What first got you into music?
Sueco: I grew up in a musical household, my dad was the choir director and guitar player at church and my mom was a singer. It was kind of just always around.
GPT: What inspired you to make the song “Drunk Dial?”
S: Honestly just making the same bad decisions over and over. There’s always gonna be that one person that we kinda look back and regret how it ended. It’s kind of reminiscing on that.
GPT: Was anyone else involved in writing, recording, or producing the song?
S: Yeah I made the demo with J Kash and Andrew Goldstein and did the final production of it with my executive producer Colin Brittain.
GPT: How could you describe your music?
S: I just like mixing everything I’ve ever been or ever liked into one sound. That’s probably why it seems very eclectic. I just want to be able to paint pictures and emotions not just with the words of the songs but with the production, Kanye is a master at that.
GPT: Describe your creative process?
S: Get sad, write about how I feel over a guitar/piano/loop, yell into a microphone, structure the yelling into a coherent song, go and produce out the song, maybe change a couple of the words, mix and master the song, release the song. It starts with the emotion first and foremost and everything I do just tries to portray that emotion.
GPT: What music artist do you admire the most and why?
S: As an artist I would say probably Kanye. I just love how he approached making music through the eyes of the producer. It turns the entire piece of recorded music into the playground.
Controversial opinion: my favorite Kanye album is Yeezus. It was just so insanely experimental. That’s what I love about it. Some of my other favorites as far as vocalists are Billie Joe from Green Day and Gerard from My Chem. Kendrick is a huge influence on me as well. I love his story telling abilities.
GPT: What do you enjoy most about being a music artist?
S: Why I even decided to take music seriously was I wanted to help people through music the way it helped me. Now that I’m on my first US tour and I’m starting to meet all the people, it’s been really inspiring actually coming face to face with the people that have been helped through my music. That’s been one of the things I’ve enjoyed the most so far, it’s like a confirmation.
GPT: Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?
S: Not that I can speak of at the moment.
GPT: What is an average day like for you?
S: Recently since we’ve been on the road it’ll go something like this: wake up in a different city, climb out of the bus and try to find something to eat/some coffee, load everything in for sound check, do a quick sound check, try to make some Tik Toks/promote the album that just dropped, eat a quick dinner, get ready for the show, play the show, dick off for a couple hours with my band/crew/whoever else we met that day, climb back into the bus, and pass out while the driver takes us to the next city.
GPT: What would be a good theme song for your life?
S: Goofy Goober Rock from the SpongeBob movie.
GPT: Tell me about your favorite concert venues!
S: Honestly my favorite concert this tour so far was in Boise, Idaho. Holy shit Idaho went fucking CRAZY. We played at the revolution. What a fucking crowd.
GPT: What is the best advice you have been given?
S: “Anyone can get it, the hardest thing to do is keeping it.”
